On planet earth we have educational facilities called schools. The way they are structured are from grades one to six, which are known as elementary school, seven to eighth, which are known as middle school, and nine to twelve known as high school. The content knowledge of the student in known by their grade level. Students are required to know certain subject areas such as Math, Reading, and Science. As shown by the PEP, Math, reading, and Science scores have risen from 1990 to 2005 in elementary and middle school, yet in high school scores have declined from 1990 to 2005. This decline is due to low moral from students, lack of resources and educational funding. By improving this, it will show an improvement on scores in the upcoming years.

Most of our students come from a Caucasian background. There are about 53% whites, 5% Asians, 15% African Americans, 24% Latino, and 6% American Indian. Due to the surrounding areas that we live in we want a positive and successful education for our students. As successful educators we find ways to connect language, music, cultural background and lifestyle of different students to make them feel comfortable not as an outsider. Our main goal is to push our students and motivate them to succeed in what ever they choose to do in life.

Our teachers often begin at or about the age of 22 and having received a bachelor’s degree. Many continue to pursue their own education as well as working to educate their students. 47% of our teachers have achieved a master’s degree or doctorate, and 58% of our teachers have been working in the field of education for over ten years. The majority of our high school educators are trained specifically in there are of content, ranging from 79% of Mathematics instructors to 84% of Social Science instructors. Although the Federal “No Child Left Behind Act” does not require instructors to have a degree in their field of teaching, it does require them to, “demonstrates subject matter competence.” A constant flow of new ideas about teaching is coming into our education system through an average of 14-21% of full time teachers with less than 3 years experience. These instructors, though lacking in experience,, more than compensate with a passion for teaching and a wealth of newand exciting ideas!

I really like how your group incorported statistics of what the backrounds of students are. I also like how you used numbers to show who had what degrees in what. I also noticed how you wrote that most of the teachers begin at the age of 22. I'm going to be 21 in 4 months and that makes me realize how close it is until I really start what im going to be doing for the rest of my life. It scares me a little to see that it's coming so soon, but then again im really excited to start a real job.

As a martian that is new to America, ive learned many things from your groups definition of what the education system is like in the U.S. The first thing I realized is that every student has to move up through the grade levels in order to reach the end of high school. It also see how each of these subjects are taught to the students in order for them to gain the knowledge that they need to move on to another grade level.

In regards to who the students are, I see these percentages and wonder, is that the same in all of the areas in America? I do find it interesting how you teachers try many different things in order to encourage your students to learn. It must be a very important thing in America for students to complete their education and that is why teachers use so much effort.

As for the teachers in these school systems, I notice that they go through much schooling in order to be able to teach students of all kinds of grade levels the things they need to succeed. I also noticed that some teachers even go the extra distance and continue on with their schooling even after they become teachers in order to make themselves even more qualified to teach students. In conclusion, I can see that the education system in America is one that is very well set up and I can only see it to improve more as time goes on.

Where did your group receive the facts about how schools are stuctured in the United States? As a Martian I learned that school structure varies from district to district. Some schools I have learned about are set up differently. Grades K-5 are elementary school, 6-8 is middle school, and 9-12 are high school. I'm not implying that you are wrong I am just curious if there were facts to support this.

I like how your group included statistics when you discussed the percentage of student and teachers. It gives me a very good understanding of the make up of your school systems.
